IM Diarrhea

  • Acute: WBC, Fever, Blood, Pain think enteroinvasive = Salm, Shigella, Entamoeba, Giardia, Campy
  • IF NOT THEN vibrio, ETEC, Staph, B. cereus, C. diff
  • Chronic: If osm gap – Changes NPO, Not nocturnal, and fecal think Celiac, Whipple’s, Sprue, Panc insuff, Lactase def
  • If no osm gap, nocturnal, etc – secretory = carcinoid, gastrinoma, VIPoma, Infxn
  • If blood and mucous think IBD
