IM Bleeding

  • Primary = Plt problem, superficial, petechiae
  • Secondary = factors, deep bleeding (hemarthrosis, hematomas)
  • Thrombocytopenia: smear, TTP/HUS, DIC, ITP, HIT
  • Plt function: NSAIDs, Uremia, VW dz, anti-platelet
  • PT/PTT/INR with mixing fails = inhibitors
  • Mixing corrects: Hemophilia, Vit K def, VW dz, coumadin
